1. Livingston County Honors Band –
The Livingston County Honors Band is an auditioned ensemble made up of students from the five High School Band programs in Livingston County (Brighton, Fowlerville, Hartland, Howell, and of course Pinckney). The ensemble performs in late January with the Band Directors from each school and a guest conductor from a local college or professional music ensemble. The LCHB is equivalent to the all-county sports teams, except this group actually performs together, usually during the last Monday during the month of January.

3. Percussion Mallet/Stick Requirements – A basic list of sticks that your percussion student must have to be a successful percussionist in the Pinckney Bands during concert season can be found @ http://www.pinckneymusic.com/resources-and-forms.html. All of the other instrumentalists at Pinckney provide all or most of their own equipment. Since Pinckney supplies all of the percussion equipment, I require percussionists to purchase a basic package of sticks and mallets. If you already have any of these mallets or sticks they can be left off of your order. I order all sticks and mallets from Steve Weiss Music out of Willow Grove, PA. They have by far the most reasonable stick prices. Their website is: www.steveweissmusic.com. You may choose to purchase these items on your own or send a check with your student and I will purchase them through the school. This is an excellent investment and will last your student throughout their entire musical experience @ Pinckney.
4. Upcoming Performance Assessment – This upcoming Wed/Thurs/Friday the concert bands will be having a scale performance examination during class. Students must come with all 12 major scales ready to perform (Wind Ensemble – 2 octaves where appropriate) and I will choose 3 of the 12. This examination will be done in front of the class. I understand that for some students this can be an anxiety driven experience, but as a musician, performing solo in public is a necessary experience. This is something that I have discovered during my 20 years of musical study and battle with performance anxiety. To give the students this necessary musical experience with a safety net, after the initial, public attempt at the performing scales, students may retake the scale test for me by themselves as many times as they want to get the grade they want. This experience is intended to give students an opportunity to confront performing solo in public and if it is not successful, allow them a second chance in a more comfortable setting.
